Completion Photos

Completion photos provide a visual record of finished work on your construction project. When a task is marked complete, you may be prompted to attach a photo documenting the result. This creates a permanent record that the project owner, the subcontractor who uploaded the photo, and customers viewing the portal can all access.

When Photos Are Prompted

The completion photo prompt appears optionally when you mark a task as Complete. You are not required to upload a photo — you can skip the prompt and complete the task without one. However, attaching photos is strongly recommended for tasks that involve inspectable work, especially those tied to the acknowledgement workflow where the owner needs to verify quality before approving.

Who Can See Completion Photos

Photos are visible to three audiences:

  • Project owner / builder — Sees all completion photos across every task in the project. This is essential for remote oversight when the owner cannot visit the site for every milestone.
  • Subcontractor who uploaded — Can see the photos they attached to their own tasks. This lets them keep a record of their completed work for their own documentation.
  • Customer via the portal — Customers viewing the project through the customer portal can see completion photos on a per-task basis. This gives homeowners visual confirmation of progress without needing to visit the job site.

Storage

Photos are stored securely in cloud storage (Cloudflare R2). Files are associated with the specific task and project, so they remain accessible as long as the project exists. Currently, this feature requires R2 storage to be configured in your deployment. If R2 is not set up, the photo prompt will not appear.

Ideal Use Cases

Completion photos are especially valuable for documenting work at key milestones throughout a construction project:

  • Framing inspection — Capture the framing before drywall covers it up. This is critical for code compliance records.
  • Rough-in verification — Document electrical, plumbing, and HVAC rough-in work before walls are closed. These photos can be invaluable if issues arise later.
  • Final walkthrough documentation — Record the finished state of rooms, fixtures, and exterior work before handover to the client.
  • Inspection preparation — Provide inspectors or permit offices with photographic evidence of completed work stages.

💡 Tip

Take photos in good lighting and include enough context to show the full scope of completed work.
