Project Health Scores
Every project in BuildChart gets a health score from 0 to 100. This score is displayed as a colored badge on dashboard project cards and in the portfolio view. It gives you an instant read on which projects are running smoothly and which need your attention.
How the Score Is Calculated
The health score starts at 100 and is reduced based on issues found in the project:
- −10 points per overdue task — Any task whose end date has passed without being marked complete reduces the score by 10 points. A project with three overdue tasks loses 30 points.
- −5 points per blocked task — Tasks with a "Blocked" status indicate something is preventing progress. Each blocked task costs 5 points.
- −20 points if the project is past its end date — When the entire project has exceeded its scheduled deadline, a flat 20-point penalty is applied on top of any individual task penalties.
The score cannot go below 0. It updates automatically whenever task statuses change, so it always reflects the current state of the project.
Color Thresholds
The health score badge is color-coded for quick visual scanning:
- Green (80–100) — On track. The project has few or no issues. Most tasks are progressing on schedule.
- Amber (50–79) — At risk. Several tasks are overdue or blocked. The project may miss its deadline without intervention.
- Red (0–49) — Needs attention. The project has significant scheduling problems. Multiple tasks are overdue, blocked, or the project has passed its end date.
Viewing the Breakdown
Hover over the health score badge on any dashboard card or portfolio row to see a tooltip breakdown. The tooltip shows how many overdue tasks, blocked tasks, and whether the project is past its deadline. This helps you quickly understand exactly what is dragging the score down without opening the project.
Using Health Scores Effectively
Health scores are most useful when you manage multiple projects at once. In the portfolio view, you can scan all your projects and immediately spot which ones have dropped into amber or red territory. On the dashboard, the badge appears on each project card alongside the progress bar and status indicator.
To improve a project's health score, focus on resolving the issues that caused the deductions: mark overdue tasks as complete if the work is done, unblock tasks by resolving dependencies or supply issues, and update dates if the schedule has shifted.
💡 Tip
Focus on projects with red health scores first. Resolve blocked tasks and address overdue items to bring the score back up.
📝 Note
Health scores are visible to owners only. Subcontractors and customers do not see health score badges.
