How BuildChart Uses Your Data to Improve AI Features

BuildChart collects anonymized, aggregated data about how projects are managed on the platform. This data powers scheduling predictions, AI features, and platform-wide benchmarks. Here is exactly what we collect, what we don't, and how to opt out.

What Data Is Collected

When a project is completed or archived, BuildChart captures anonymized patterns such as:

  • Schedule accuracy — planned vs actual durations (in days, not dates)
  • Task breakdown — how many tasks per section, how many had dependencies
  • Completion patterns — how many tasks finished on time, early, or late
  • Cascade patterns — how many tasks were affected when one shifted
  • Weather delays — how many delays were logged and their impact
  • Team size — number of members (not names)
  • Budget range — broad category only (e.g., "$50K–$250K"), never exact amounts
  • Task keywords — common construction words extracted from task names (e.g., "framing", "electrical", "permit")

What Is Explicitly NOT Collected

The analytics system never stores:

  • Project names or descriptions
  • Client names, addresses, or contact information
  • Your business name or location (beyond broad US Census region)
  • Financial details or exact dollar amounts
  • Full task names — only anonymized keywords
  • Team member names or email addresses
  • Any information that could identify you, your business, or your clients

📝 Note

Analytics tables have no foreign keys to user accounts. There is no way to trace an analytics row back to a specific user or project.

What It Is Used For

  • Improving scheduling accuracy — understanding how long tasks actually take vs planned
  • Developing AI-powered features — better duration estimates, risk predictions
  • Training machine learning models that power intelligent scheduling
  • Platform-wide benchmarks — average completion rates, common delay patterns

How to Opt Out

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Scroll to the Data & Privacy section
  3. Toggle off "Contribute to AI improvements"

Opting out stops all future data collection immediately. No analytics will be captured from your projects going forward.

💡 Tip

Opting out does not remove previously anonymized data that has already been aggregated. Since the data contains no identifying information, it cannot be traced back to your account.

Third-Party AI Services

BuildChart may use third-party AI services (such as Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI) to provide certain features. Your data is not used to train third-party AI models — all major AI API providers contractually prohibit using API data for model training. Data is transmitted securely via encrypted connections, and only the minimum necessary data is sent.

Your Rights

  • Opt out — stop future data collection at any time in Account Settings
  • Export — download all your project data from project settings
  • Delete — request account deletion which removes all your identifiable data
  • Transparency — this article describes exactly what is collected and how
